What are Anti-aging Therapies?

Anti-aging therapies are treatments to delay or prevent an aged appearance.

What do Anti-aging Therapies Involve?

Anti-aging therapies involve the utilization of safe and effective procedures that address the underlying mechanisms of aging and keep you looking younger.

Anti-aging Therapies Offered

Several therapies are available to match your anti-aging goals. They include but are not limited to the following:

Laser Resurfacing (Laser Peel, Laser Vaporisation or Lasabrasion)

This involves directing short and concentrated pulsating light beams to remove the skin, layer by layer.

Potential risks:

  • Burns or other injuries
  • Scarring (can be permanent)
  • Skin pigmentation changes
  • Bacterial infection

There are two types of laser resurfacing.

Fractional CO2 laser skin resurfacing: This uses a combination of CO2 lasers and beamlets of energy light.

Benefits:

  • Quick method and less damage (no harm to the top layer of skin)
  • Fewer wrinkles and skin irregularities, speedy recovery
  • No side effects (just redness and swelling for one or two days)
  • Maximum results with the effects lasting for 8 to 10 years

Risks:

  • People with darker complexions may experience pigmentation loss

Erbium laser resurfacing: This is designed to remove surface-level and moderately deep wrinkles and lines.

Benefits:

  • Minimal burning of surrounding tissues
  • Fewer side effects (just swelling, bruising, and redness)
  • Faster recovery time than CO2 laser resurfacing
  • Works better for darker skin tones

Wrinkle Injections

Wrinkle injections involve the use of fillers to fill wrinkles and plump the skin where wrinkles are more visible. The effect is known to last for 1 to 2 years.

Benefits:

  • No surgery
  • Hydrated skin
  • Natural, fresh and youthful look

Risks:

  • Mild redness or swelling at the site of injection

Ultherapy

Ultherapy uses ultrasound or heat energy and targets areas beneath the skin.

Benefits:

  • Nonsurgical with minimal preparation
  • Firmer skin with fewer or no wrinkles (lines)
  • Minimal to no recovery time in most cases
  • Immediate resumption of regular activities

Risks:

  • Temporary redness, tingling, swelling, and tenderness. Rarely, bruising or numbness may occur.

Antioxidant Applications

Antioxidants are skincare nutrients that are applied topically (on the skin).

Benefits:

  • Improved appearance
  • No allergic reactions
  • No skin irritations

Peptide Applications

Peptides are small proteins that stimulate skin cells to make a quicker turnover, much like young skin.

Benefits:

  • Prevent wrinkles formation
  • Provide improved appearance

Microneedling

Microneedling involves creating small punctures on the skin surface and applying an active ingredient topically.

Benefits:

  • Improved appearance
  • Impressive results

Chemical Peels

In this therapy, a chemical solution is applied to the skin. The solution produces blisters and eventually peels the skin off.

Benefits:

  • Smoother and less wrinkled skin
  • Improved appearance

Botox

Botulinum toxin, a natural and purified protein found in Botox, is given as an injection to relax the muscles and improve facial lines.

Benefits:

  • Softens existing wrinkles
  • Avoids wrinkle formation

Dermabrasion

Dermabrasion uses a special instrument that "sands" your skin.

Benefits:

  • New, smoother skin layer in place of the older layer

Anti-aging Sunscreens

Sunscreens, available as lotions or gels, protect against the damaging UVA (Ultraviolet-A) rays when applied topically.

Benefits:

  • No sunburn or premature aging

Vitamin A Prescriptions

Retinoids, derivatives of vitamin A, are anti-aging agents available as lotions. They are normally prescribed three times a week for 24 weeks for significant results.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy

During hyperbaric oxygen therapy you breathe in pure oxygen in a pressurized chamber. This treatment was initially used mainly to treat decompression sickness but also has several health and anti-aging benefits. It stimulates the production of growth factors and stem cells which help repair and rejuvenate the tissues. The increased oxygen in your body helps combat infections.

Cryotherapy

Cryotherapy can help improve metabolism and collagen production, to rejuvenate the skin and tissues and decrease the signs of ageing. During this treatment the whole body is exposed to very low temperatures for a short duration (3 mins). This alters and boosts the circulation removing toxins and promoting healing and rejuvenation.
